My colleagues in Canberra were regularly keen to get away from the office for a team lunch. On one of these occasions, we made our way to Treehouse in the Sydney Building, located on Northbourne Ave to partake in their $9 lunch menu, available Wednesday to Friday from 12pm.
The selection of $9 lunches were displayed on a blackboard downstairs and we were all drawn to an item. Ordering our lunch was easy.
Seeing as though our group had 6 people, we were directed upstairs for a larger table. Our booth seats overlooked the bar downstairs through the branches of one of the beautifully lit trees within the venue.
Not only was there a $9 lunch special, but Treehouse also offer a $3 drink special from Wednesday to Fridays, which includes Monteiths cider (pictured), house red or white wine, beer or soft drink.
Jake started with a dozen of Clyde River oysters ($15), served with a pinot vinaigrette granita. Our waitress told us that the oysters were freshly bought to Canberra from the South Coast.
A popular lunch choice was the togarashi spiced calamari with green apple, cucumber and wasabi. I loved this dish – the calamari were crunchy but soft inside, with the apple and wasabi flavour was a winning combination.
Two of my colleagues ordered the vegetarian penne, with asparagus, pine nuts and parmesan. There were no complaints, but both colleagues mentioned the generous size of the serving.
I loved our cheap and cheerful lunch at Treehouse. After this visit, our team spoke about it becoming a regular. It’s a great little venue for a relaxed, delicious lunch that won’t break the bank.
