During Christmas and New Year, I was lucky enough to have three weeks off. I spent the time lounging around under the air con, eating, writing and catching up with friends. It was a bit unfortunate that during this time the majority of the places I wanted to eat at were closed during the break. My bestie and I, who shall be known as B, were headed to the Healthy Choice Café in Victoria Park but when we arrived it was closed. After lots of deliberation, we decided we’d head for a pub meal at the Como Hotel.
B and I are both extremely indecisive. By the time we got to the Como, we had spent a good hour in Victoria Park wondering around, trying to find somewhere we wanted to eat at. Then, once we were at the Como Hotel, it took us another 20 minutes figuring out what to order. After this lengthy period, we decided we’d get the top two choices and split them in half to share – they were the Smoked Salmon Wrap ($21.50) and the Barramundi Fish Burger ($15). B was also telling me about her new discovery of Rekorderlig Cider ($14.10), so we ordered a bottle to share as well.
I’ve been a fan of the Como Hotel for years now. I used to live in South Perth and technically my local was the Windsor Hotel, but I used to find myself at the Como Hotel more often. It has a chilled atmosphere, a lovely beer garden and the food is always above par (and reasonably priced). Luckily, it was no different on the afternoon B and I paid a visit.
We sat in the beer garden and within minutes of ordering at the till our Rekorderlig Cider arrived with two glasses and ice. We ordered the Strawberry and Lime flavour and after the first sip I was a fan! It was definitely one of the best ciders I have tasted – If you are a fan of cider, I definitely recommend trying one of the Rekorderlig flavours. The bottle was a perfect amount for B and I to share (as they are 500ml) and it was very refreshing on the warm summer afternoon.
It didn’t take long for the food to arrive and both of the dishes looked amazing. The Barramundi Fish Burger came with chunky chips, which were perfectly cooked and seasoned. I really enjoyed the burger, as the fish was lightly battered and seemingly fresh, with a lively salad and a perfect amount of tartare sauce.
The Smoked Salmon Wrap came with a lovely rocket and avocado salad. i loved that they didn’t skimp on the amount of avocado in the salad and the dressing was really light. The wrap consisted of smoked salmon, cream cheese, fennel, roast capsicum and spring onion. There was also thick balsamic vinegar drizzled over the plate which was a lovely touch. I have a strange love of that thick balsamic vinegar and was quite happy when B didn’t mind me dipping a few chips in the sauce around her plate. The wrap was lightly toasted and overall, it was a lovely tasting wrap that made B and I very happy.
The Como Hotel won B and I over in regards to great food and a lovely beer garden atmosphere. We had no complaints and we’ll definitely be back again for another lazy Sunday lunch. On Sunday afternoons in the beer garden they offer live music and lunch specials. B and I definitely recommend going to The Como Hotel for reasonably priced food and drinks, in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.
