An Excellent Lunch @ White Salt, Sorrento, W.A.

One of my readers, Madi, recommended a visit to White Salt for a try of their fixed lunch special, which includes an entrée and main for $36. Soon after her recommendation, I was asked to organise a business lunch for a visiting colleague at a venue that was nearby our office and featured excellent food. I couldn’t help but see this as the perfect opportunity to try White Salt and booked us in. An added bonus was the restaurant’s location opposite Sorrento beach – a perfect setting to show off Perth’s amazing beaches to our Melbourne based colleague.

On the day we headed to White Salt, the weather was horrible. The sky was grey, the wind was fierce and it was raining heavily. Regardless, the scenery was beautiful from inside the cosy restaurant, as White Salt has large glass windows overlooking the ocean and the grey weather didn’t subtract from the beauty of Sorrento beach.

Due to time constraints, we ordered our food choices quickly. I chose the Mozzarella Arancini for my entrée, which was served with tomato chutney and a rocket and parmesan salad. The two mozzarella arancini’s were still hot and the cheese oozed out of them when they were cut. They were also excellently seasoned and I especially liked the pairing of the salad and tomato chutney. An excellent dish.

My colleagues ordered the Local Seared Scallops and the Warm Salad of Mushroom and Goat’s Cheese dishes for their entrées and both mentioned that their entrées were also very enjoyable.

For the main course, I ordered the FIsh of the Day – Grilled Tasmanian Salmon with Chat Potatoes, Broccolini and Salsa Verde. I really enjoyed the flavour of the salsa verde, which was strong in herb flavours and added an excellent burst of flavour to the salmon, broccolini and potatoes. The skin of the salmon was super crispy – it was possibly the crispiest skin I’ve had on salmon and it had a lovely salty flavour. This was another excellent dish.

One of my colleagues also ordered the Fish of the Day, while the other ordered the Pork Loin Medallions, which looked and smelt amazing.

Throughout our lunch, we were treated to excellent service as well as the gorgeous view of the stormy weather over the ocean. I can see why White Salt has been privy to a series of accolades in the Perth food and wine industry. Both of my colleagues mentioned that the food, service and setting were exceptionally good and I will definitely return to White Salt in the near future.

Highly recommended.
