This recipe is super quick and easy to pull together. You don’t need to use a food processor to combine the crumble ingredients, nor do you need to cook the apples before placing them in the oven. All you need is a few basic ingredients and voila – quick, easy and tasty apple crumble!
- 3/4 cup of flour
- 3/4 cup of rolled oats
- 115g of butter, softened
- 3/4 cup of brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon (optional)
- 4 green apples, washed
Pre-heat oven to 200°c
In order to prepare the apples, you will need to decide whether you want to keep the skin on or off. Both work fine and it depends on your personal preference. Once you have decided, you will need to dice the apples into small pieces. Place them in a shallow ovenproof dish (I use a square dish that is 7 inches x 7 inches).
Place the flour, rolled oats, butter, sugar and cinnamon (optional) in a bowl and mix thoroughly. You can use a food processor if you want, however I like my crumble chunky. Place the crumble on top of the apples in the oven proof dish and smooth it out.
Place in the oven for 30 minutes or until the top is golden.
Serve with vanilla ice cream or custard.
Note: There is no need to cook the apples before placing them in the oven, as the oven will cook them for you. It’s a dry dish before you put it in the oven but the apples and brown sugar will caramalise together while it’s cooking. Once it has finished baking it will be a perfect mix of chunky crumble and soft apple layers.
